Obituary of Stephen J. Sanford

RENSSELAER - Stephen J. Sanford aka "Stevie11   59, of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, after a long illness, at his home in Rensselaer. Stevie was born December 25, 1962, in Albany, New York, the son of the late Louis F. and Ruth E. (Mason) Sanford Sr.  He was a Dishwasher and prep cook for Ten Eyck Cafe, in Albany and for Jonathan's Pizza for many years before becoming ill.

Stephen was also a member of The Gerald O'Neil Post Sons of the American Legion Squadron #1683 where he took part in Rensselaer NY annual Memorial Day Parade for many years until he became ill. He was also a lover of animals taking care of his sister's dog Kiwi, his brothers dog Nina and his brothers 2 cats Sylvester and Daffy.

Stevie is survived by his siblings Esther Sanford, Wesley Sanford Sr., Louis Sanford Jr., Francis Sanford, Rubie Weekes, and Russell Cole. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews’ great nieces and great nephews and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Louis F. Sanford Sr and Ruth E. (Mason)

Family and friends are invited to attend his services Monday afternoon 12-3 calling hours 12 to 3PM with a funeral service following at 3PM at the Rockefeller Funeral home 165 Columbia Tpk Rensselaer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Stephen's name to American Cancer Society or CommunityHospice.org

Stephen's Family would like to say a special thank you to Community Hospice who took care of him the last few months, as well as The City of Rensselaer NY Fire Department and The Mohawk Ambulance Service for many years of care for Stephen.
