Edward Barbin

Obituary of Edward W. Barbin

Town of Schodack, Edward “Eddie” Wertman Barbin, 80, died peacefully and with great strength at home in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, April 3 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Born and raised in Colonie, New York Eddie graduated from Colonie High School.  He served in the Army reserves and had a life long career as an electrician.  He was a lifetime member of the local Union IBEW 724 where he served as president and acting Business Agent.  He continued his career at National Grid as part of their management team until his retirement.

After his retirement he enjoyed cultivating beautiful flowers in his greenhouses, which he shared with the community through his farm stand “Barbin’s Hillside Farm and Greenhouses”.  Sharing his gift of gardening to others brought him great pleasure.  He enjoyed daily visits with his friends and neighbors at the local diner where they would share a coffee and some conversation.  He was an avid golfer and shared his passion for the sport with his granddaughter Caitlan whom he taught how to play at the early age of three.  He loved spending time at the lake enjoying the peace and beautiful views with all of his family.  He experienced many great family memories vacationing to the islands on Disney cruises, to Maine and his absolute favorite Disney World where he would share his favorite ice cream – chocolate mickey ears - with his grandchildren while watching the beautiful nightly firework displays.

For those who knew Eddie they knew that the light of his world was his family.  He was a loving and supportive father who taught his daughters Ingrid and Dawn the importance of family and faith.  By his example he instilled in them that family is the truest blessing in life.  He built a foundation of strength in his family that will never be broken and will be his legacy that will continue beyond his presence on this earth.

He was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren; Caitlan, Stephen, Emma and Brooke whom he cherished.  He was so proud of each of their accomplishments and the individuals whom they grew up to become.  The love he showed them through their lives remains within them and continues to be a beacon for their futures.

He loved his two son-in-laws: Steve and Jody.  They were the sons that God blessed him with through the marriage of his daughters.  He was so grateful for their unwavering support of our family through the years, especially in the years he was no longer physically able to take care of things; his boys were his legs and arms when his own body failed.  He found much peace knowing that Steve and Jody would continue to take care of his family!

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years Berendina “Bernie”.  She was the love of his life and he mourned the loss of her till the day he left this earth.  One of the last words he said was that he saw her on a hill and she was waiting for him and she looked “Beautiful”.  They are now walking together hand and hand on that hill with the Lord, watching over the family that he built.  They will forever be our guardian angels shining upon us from Heaven above.

Edward was born in Albany, New York, the Son of the late Edward M. and Eleanor W. Barbin.
