Obituary of Sandra Galligan
SANDY GALLIGAN, 78 of Castleton, passed away Friday December 3, 2021 at The Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center. Sandy was born March 15 1943 in Troy, New York, the daughter of the late Franklin and Marie (Burns) Fazackerley. Sandy received her B.S. in Nursing from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York and her M.S in Nursing at Boston College. Sandy was a Professor of Nursing at Georgetown , UCLA, and Russell Sage College during the 1970’s and 1980’s. Sandy concluded her teaching career at Hudson Valley Community College where she was a professor in the Nursing Department. She was presented numerous prestigious awards while at Hudson Valley . She received The New York State Association Nursing Excellence Award In Education, The HVCC President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and The State University’s highest academic award, The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Sandy loved teaching and especially enjoyed teaching at HVCC where so many older returning students had the opportunity to pursue a career in the important field of nursing.
Survivors include her son Craig Galligan (Shannon), Her partner of over 25 years Phil Brown, her brother Paul Fazackerley (Sandy) , a granddaughter, Harper Galligan, and a nephew Adam (Amy) Fazackerley and their three sons.
The family would like to thank Kathleen and the nursing staff at Hawthorne Ridge and Melissa, Alicia, Kristi, Denise, and the nursing staff at The Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center for the wonderful care they provided Sandy during her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services 11-1 with a funeral service at 1 on Wednesday December 8,2021 at the Rockefeller Funeral Home 165 Columbia Tpk Rensselaer. Interment will be in the East Greenbush Cemetery The family has requested that all guests wear masks
