Obituary of Roland Baird Wagner

ROLAND BAIRD WAGNER

September 1st 1931-September 26th 2021

 

Passed away peacefully at his home in West Sand Lake NY, with family at his side after a two year long battle with cancer. Roland was born in Newark Ohio. He was a US Army veteran and served in combat during the Korean war in 1951. After his military service He attended The Ohio State University where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree. Roland moved to East Greenbush NY in 1963 with his four sons. He was employed for 30 years as a research Microbiologist at the Sterling Winthrop drug company and part time for 20 years at St Peters hospital in Albany.

After retiring he continued to work as a courier for Community Care Physicians, where he enjoyed his daily interactions with the staff at the many medical offices he supported.

Roland was very active in his community. He was proud of his 25 year membership with the Sand Lake Kiwanis Club, and took an active role in the services they provided. He was a Hospice volunteer for 10 years, and also enjoyed attending meeting and trips with the Sand Lake Senior Center. Roland was an avid racquetball player and excelled at the sport until his 80 birthday when he gave up his racquet and started spinning twice a week at the YMCA in East Greenbush.

Roland is preceded in death by his father Lawrence, and mother Francis, and siblings Bill, Eleanor, Margie, Nancy. And wives Marie, Cynthia, and Margaret. As well as his son Mark.

He is survived by his sons Kent, Doug, Brian, Matthew, Andrew, and daughters Laura and Lisa, and his stepson Bradley Belleville. Also, his favorite Niece Judi Brenning and her daughter Ginger, along with 10 grand children and two great grand-children. As well as his long time partner Elizabeth (Betty) Crozier The family wishes to extend a special thanks to his nurse at Albany Medical center, Vivian T, and to his hospice nurse Denise, and the Community Hospice organization, as well as to Dr. Makenzi Evangelist and her staff at NYOH.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours Friday from 10:00 Am - 1:00 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home 165 Columbia Tpk. Rensselaer. Interment will be in New Rural Cemetery East Greenbush.

In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake foundation Inc, PO Box 535 West Sand Lake NY 12196
