Duane Wood Poestenkill Pastor
9:30 Sunday August 29, the Poestenkill Christian Church at the Four Corners will observe “Woody Sunday” celebrating the life of Reverend Duane Robert Wood 88, who passed quietly July 27,2021. Everyone who remembers this exceptional individual is most welcome. Guest pastor will be The Reverend Doctor J. Thomas Allison, Woody’s predecessor. Guest Musician is Mr. Doug Persons, Brassmaster The First Church in Albany, North Pearl Street.
He called The Center for Nursing, Hoosick Falls his home since 2006. Duane was born in Gloversville to Alice (Mosher) and Louis DuBois August 17, 1933. He began his career as bookkeeper for Fownes Gloves of that city.
Duane was pastor of the Bleeker St. Church of Christ. In 1999, he retired having served the Poestenkill Christian Church for 16 years.
He strode the boards of Colonial Little Theatre, Johnstown sometimes lending his baritone voice for the lead, including the Devil in “Damn Yankees.” Woody is remembered for bringing life to Abby and Martha Brewster, twin sisters and dispensers of poisoned port in a musical spoof of “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
A thirty year member of the Capital District Lesbian and Gay Community Council, he attended GAYLA, an annual conference of the Ferry Beach Park Association (Unitarian Universalist), Saco ME.
He was famous for church suppers and needlecraft. Introduced to weaving by a member of the Poestenkill church began a twenty year love affair with a hand loom. At the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, long time companions, Gus and Mollie, chose him over those just looking for another pet.
