Obituary of John C. Amedio Sr.
SCHODACK - John C. Amedio Sr., 94, of Schodack, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at home.
John was a native of Ravena, New York, raised on the family farm during the depression. He was the son of the late Giovanni and Anastasia (Carrachia) Amedio.
He served in the US Army during World War II (1944-1946) with the 75th Infantry Division, known as the “Diaper Division” since most infantrymen were only 18 and 19 years old. He fought combat in the Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge). Once the war ended, he was assigned to the 241st Infantry. John was awarded the EAME Medal and the World War 2 Victory Medal for his service.
John retired as a Computer Operator for D&H Railroad after 43 years, starting his career loading freight on trains. He held many second jobs to support his family, which included the former Cromwell Printing, Port of Albany and worked construction building the Empire Plaza.
John lived for God, Family and Country. The doors to his home were always open. He prided himself on sharing his home cooked meals and his warm, compassionate personality. He will be sorely missed.
Predeceased by his wife Roseanne M. Amedio, who passed April of this year after 63 years of marriage, Sisters Louise and Rose Amedio and brothers Joseph, Anthony, Carmen, Michael, Richard, Elmer, Thomas, and James Amedio.
Survivors include his devoted children John (Roberta) Amedio Jr., Frances Amedio, Carmen (Laura) Amedio, Christopher Amedio, Joseph (Debra) Amedio. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home Inc., 165 Columbia Tpk in Rensselaer. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM.
