Obituary of Lothar E. Allert
Allert, Lothar (Lou) Erich, age 73, of Rensselaer, passed suddenly on Wednesday May 19th, 2021. Lou was born in Germany, the son of the late Gustav and Gertrude Allert. Lou immigrated from Germany to the U.S. in February of 1956 with his parents and 5 siblings. He graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1966 and attended HVCC. Lou served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Lou retired after working as a construction worker and foreman for NPT in Schenectady. Lou always enjoyed playing sports, including baseball, volleyball, basketball, golf, and bowling. However, his true passion was soccer, which he played well into his forties. Lou continued his love of sports off field as well, coaching little league baseball and pop warner football and serving as Rensselaer Pop Warner President.
Lou was a generous man who worked hard to provide for his family. Despite how hard he worked, he always made time to attend every game, competition, and play that his family was a part of. He was “Pop Pops” to the softball team his family played on. Spending time with family was especially important to Lou. Throughout the generations, one of his favorite activities remained gathering around a table and playing cards with people he loved. Lou was a lucky man who enjoyed spending time at the Casino, Bingo Halls, and the Saratoga Racetrack with family. There was no limit on how far he would go to care for and spoil his family and friends. To know Lou, was to be loved by Lou.
Lou was predeceased by his wife Dawn Romano Allert, his mother and father-in-law Agostino and Frances Romano, sisters Helga (Bill) Lieberman, Karin (Cliff) Carrow, and sister-in-law Theresa Brooking. He is survived by his daughter Vanessa (Gerald Jr.) Kallner, son Anthony (Rikki) Allert, brothers and sisters Pete (Sue) Buege, Ursula (Charlie) Zeilman, and Jutta (George) Forkel; and brothers and sisters-in-law Michael (Penny) Romano, Frances (Tim) Nolan, William Brooking Sr., Charlie Romano, and June (Steve Calacone) Herrington. Lou was the proud Opa to Marcus Allert, Mattea Kallner, Jasmine Allert, and Shaylee Lou Kallner. He is also survived by generations of nieces and nephews.
