Obituary of Richard L. McNeil Sr.

Mr. Richard Lee McNeil, Sr. was born February 9, 1943 to the late Douglas and Lisher (Wilder) McNeil in Sanford, North Carolina. He transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, January 31, 2021 surrounded by the people that he loved dearly.

 

At an early age, Richard attended Murchison Chapel AME Zion church.

 

Richard received his education from Johnsonville High School in Cameron NC, after completing his schooling in 1961 he moved to Albany, NY were held various maintenance jobs.

 

  In 1981 he began working for New York State Thruway Authority where he work as Bridge Maintenance. After Twenty years of working with the NYS Thruway he retired in 2001.

 

Richard enjoyed life and spending time with his family & friends. He loved putting together cookouts and gatherings. Wherever he was rather it was in his back yard, the park or in North Carolina he could and would always get his family and friends together, for food & fellowship in one place. Richard was an avid bowler, he was on multiple bowling leagues. He also had a love for fishing and shooting pool.

 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Douglass and Lisher McNeil; two brothers, Douglas McNeil Jr. and  Johnnie  Mc Neil ;   Two sisters Clara Gilchrist and Annie Lou Grant; one grandson Shelton Lee McLean and one great grandson Wyatt Mainville.

 

          He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 24 years, Patricia McNeil of the home; two daughters, Sherri McNeil (Geneamo) and Dorothy Hammond of Albany, NY; two sons, Richard McNeil Jr. and Randy Fox-Solomon (Alison) of Albany, NY; two children that he loved as his own, Eugene McCall (Bonnie) and Felicia Ford (Erik) both of Albany NY; Five brothers; Paul McNeil (Onelia) of Sanford, NC, Thurman McNeil (Helen) of Siler City, NC, Harold Brooks, Tyrone Brooks (Agnes) and Angelo Brooks (Deborah) of Sanford, NC; five sisters, Hildra Nelson of New York, NY, Phyllis Johnson, Cinder Goldston (Walter), Robin Brooks all of Sanford, NC and Lawanda Carter (Tom) of Spring Lake, NC.

Twelve Grandchildren Danielle McLean, La’Quanda Carter, Iesha Fallen, Leon and Jade Horton, Tinasia Mc Neil. Matthew Solomon, Sarah Bullock, Makayla, Athena, Arianna, and Caidy Fox­ Solomon; Five Great grandchildren Kyaire McLean, Ty’Lord Owens, Harmony Horton, Sky’La Owens, London Robertson Troy Urena. Godson Jason Mc Neil. 

Grandchildren and great grandchildren that he loved as his own LaQuisha and Que-Asia Coffin, Shakima Alexander, Richard White, Kimora Johnson, DaQuam McCall, Jaziah Mallory, Joshaun and Shamar Thomas, Quest Green, Jayla Mainville, Marcellus Johnson. He also leaves five brother-in-laws to cherish his memory Johnnie, James, and Willie (Georgia) Lacy, Walter and Otis (Melissa) Bosh

 

 

All family and friends are invited to his calling hours 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Friday with the funeral services to follow at the Elijah Missionary Baptist Church, 74 Second Ave Albany, N.Y, 12202.
