Obituary of Janet A. Connor

CASTLETON - Janet A. Connor, 88, formerly of Castleton, NY, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021. She passed peacefully at the Warren Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Queensbury, NY following a long and courageous battle with symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.  Janet was born in White Plains, NY on December,10,1932. She was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth Carmody Connor and Leo D. Connor, her brother, Leo Connor, Jr., her niece, Brenda Connor, and her sister-in-law, Clara Connor. 

Janet earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching from Plattsburgh State Teachers College in 1953, and later her Master’s Degree in Education from St. Rose College.  She was a Kindergarten teacher in the East Greenbush School District for 34 years before retiring in 1988. Janet was extremely artistic, musical and had a great sense of humor.  Once retired she spent much of her time with great-nieces and nephews, attending school events and celebrations.

     She is lovingly remembered by her family: nephew Michael Connor of Queensbury, NY, and wife Karen; nephew Brian Connor of Bolton, MA, and wife Robin; nephew Stephen Connor of Baldwinsville, NY, and wife Patty. Janet’s many grandnieces and nephews will cherish their many memories together; Ryan (Erin) Connor, Laura (Chris) Auffredou, Mark (Renee) Connor, Wesley (ShanShan) Connor, Jenna Connor, Victoria Connor, Alexandra Connor and great-grandnieces and nephews Ethan, Bryden, Mac, Grant, Alula and Laney.  Some of their favorite memories with Janet include Sunday roast beef dinners, sharing root beer in glass bottles, joy rides in her VW bug, picking raspberries from her backyard, and Janet’s favorite restaurant The Purple Pub.

      Janet also had many friends who resembled family.  Carol and Dick Prashaw opened their family to Janet and had many memories over the years.  Carol kept Janet great company and cared for her as her health started to decline in more recent years.  The family would like to thank the Prashaws and all of Janet’s dear friends who brought her much joy and support over the years.

       Virtual Visitation services will be held at 9-10am on Saturday, January 9th, 2021 with a funeral service at 10.  The family would like to invite anyone who knew Janet to join via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83888664537  In closing, a poem by Rita Beer, “I’m no longer by your side, but there’s no need to weep; I’ve left sweet recollections, I’m hoping you would keep.  Eternal joy and memories stay in our hearts forever, strengthening our special bond that parting cannot sever.  Now it’s time to journey on, so let your faith be strong, for I am in a better place…I’m home where I belong.  And if times of loneliness bring sorrow and dismay, don’t despair, for I am there…Just a memory away.”
