Castleton - Stephen P. Kannes, 74, of Castleton, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the Samuel S. Stratton Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Stephen was born in Albany, New York, the son of the late Harry and Mary (Kinnas) Kannes.
He served in the Navy from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam war. One of his proudest moments of service occurred when his recovery aircraft carrier retrieved astronauts from the Gemini XII in the Atlantic Ocean. He also served in the Army National Guard and was a self-employed Electrician.
Survivors include his wife Dina Kannes, daughter Regina (Derrell) Waylon, son Stephen A. (Deneen) Kannes, siblings Nadia Farran, Amelia (Paul) Harter, Ann (William) DeMark, and Kathryn (William) Nasholts.
He was predeceased by brother Harry "Sonny" Kannes Jr., sister Mary McCoy, and brother Saveryn "Brotch" Kannes.
Funeral services will be private. Family and friends are invited to his burial with full military honors Wednesday at 1:30 at Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Stephen’s name to a charity of the donor's choice.
