Henry Franklin Hosley Jr. MD, 92, of Castleton, NY died on January 3rd 2021 from complications of COVID-19, after living at the Riverside Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born June 18, 1928 in Hackensack, New Jersey to the late Henry Franklin and Dora (Beck) Hosley. Dr. Hosley was predeceased by his wife, Leslie Anne (Goff) Hosley in 2017, his sister Emily Hall (Hosley) Levine in 2013 and half-brother McDowell Hosley in 1976. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1952 with a degree in Chemistry and History. After receiving a medical degree and completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical College in 1956, he completed a fellowship in Oncology at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, NY. There he studied diseases of the blood, primarily Leukemia. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Oncology at Albany Medical College.
Henry held a life-long commitment to his patients’ welfare, practicing internal medicine at The Brookview Medical Group in Castleton, NY and tending to patients regularly at Albany Memorial Hospital. He performed house calls throughout his career, long after this tradition had become an uncommon practice. He was an advocate of cancer awareness and developed a smoking education program, for which he held lectures at public schools throughout Rensselaer and Albany Counties. Dr. Hosley is survived by his four children David Hosley (Robyn), Anne Kalter (Mitchell), Johanna Broughton (Richard), Robert Hosley (Kathleen); seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nephews Joseph Brillinger (Kathleen), Jeffrey Brillinger and niece Anne Hall Levine (Michael). Dr. Hosley was active in the East Greenbush Reformed Church Choir for many years, Mendelssohn Club of Albany, Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 19 (Albany), Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, a founding member of the Cornwallville Conservation Corporation, enjoyed bowling in the East Greenbush Teachers Association bowling league, and had a passion for outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, golfing and camping). A service will be scheduled for a future date in the Spring. Internment will be in the East Greenbush Reformed Church Cemetery.
