Esther M. Farrell

CASTELTON - Esther M. Farrell, 70, a resident at Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Castelton, went up to Heaven on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, to join her beloved parents, the late Donald G. and Esther M. (Scholan) Cole.

Esther was born August 16, 1950.  She attended St. Mary's School in Clinton Heights, and St. John's Academy in Rensselaer.  She began her career in banking at the State Bank of Albany, and most recently was employed by Capital Bank and Trust before retiring in 2008.  Esther's favorite place in the world was Cape Cod.  She began vacationing there with her mother in the late 1970s.  She loved the sound of the ocean and her toes in the sand.  Cape Cod is truly where she was the happiest.  She enjoyed playing softball in her womens' league for several years.  Esther was always willing to humor her daughter, Theresa, and go for a drive with no real destination, explore spooky places, have a picnic at Thacher Park, try a new kind of food for dinner (except sushi), or just do some shopping.  She also would never say no to a hazelnut iced coffee (must be genetic).

Esther was the BEST mom to her daughter Theresa Scrodanus (David), and the most loving Grammy to her grandsons, Donnie and Gavin, and her Granddog, Philly.  She is also survived by her sister, Darlene (Bob) Wood, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank Annette and the wonderful staff at Riverside for their exceptional care these past few years, and her angel of a Hospice nurse, Lauren, for her unwavering love and kindness.

Friends and family may call Tuesday from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home Inc., 165 Columbia Tpk in Rensselaer. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM .  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Esther’s name to The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208.
